Greater Trochanteric Pain/Gluteal Tendinopathy
This condition refers to pain around the outer hip, often caused by irritation or overload of the gluteal tendons where they attach to the greater trochanter (the bony point on the outside of the hip). It’s commonly known as Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS).
GTPS often develops from repetitive strain, poor hip control, or increased activity without adequate conditioning. It’s more common in women over 40 and in people with lower back, knee, or foot issues.
- Pain on the outer hip especially when laying on that side
- Discomfort during walking
- Climbing stairs or standing on one leg
- Tenderness to touch at the side of the hip
- Stiff or aching after sitting or resting
Early intervention can reduce pain, improve tendon health, and restore normal movement. If lateral hip pain is affecting your lifestyle, we’re here to help with expert, evidence-based care
Femoral-acetabular Impingement
FAI is a condition where abnormal contact between the hip ball (femoral head) and socket (acetabulum) leads to joint irritation and pain. It can limit hip movement and, over time, may contribute to joint distortion
FAI is typically caused by bony changes in the hip joint—either extra bone on the femur (cam type), the socket (pincer type), or both. It often develops in active individuals and athletes, especially those involved in sports with repetitive hip flexion and rotation
- Groin or front of hip pain during activity or prolonged sitting
- Stiffness or reduced range of motion
- Clicking catching or locking sensation
- Pain with twisting squatting or hip flexion
Targeted physiotherapy can help manage symptoms, improve joint mobility, and support hip strength. If hip pain is holding you back, our team is here to guide your recovery
Hip Arthritis
Hip osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition where the cartilage cushioning the hip joint wears down over time, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.
It typically develops due to age-related wear and tear but can also follow injury, overuse, or underlying joint abnormalities. It’s more common in people over 50 and those with a physically demanding lifestyle or family history of arthritis.
- Deep aching into groin buttock or thigh
- Stiffness especially in the morning or after rest
- Reduced hip mobility ( putting on socks/shoes)
- Pain during or after activity
- Walking, or standing
While arthritis can’t be reversed, intervention at our clinic can play a key role in managing symptoms, improving movement, and maintaining joint function. If hip stiffness or pain is impacting your quality of life, we’re here to help.
Hamstring Insertional Tendinopathy
Hamstring insertional tendinopathy is a condition where the hamstring tendons become irritated or overloaded where they attach to the sit bone (ischial tuberosity) at the top of the back of the thigh. It’s a common cause of deep buttock pain
It’s often caused by repetitive strain, especially in activities involving running, lunging, or prolonged sitting. It can also develop gradually with increased training loads or poor movement patterns.
- Deep ache or shaper pain into the lower buttock
- Discomfort when sitting for long periods
- Pain during running especially uphill
- Tenderness at the sitting bone or when stretching hamstring
With early intervention, pain can be reduced and tendon health restored through targeted strengthening and load management. If this pain is limiting your training or daily life, we’re here to help you recover effectively
