Radiculopathy/Disc Pathology

What is it?

Lumbar disc pathology and nerve pain—commonly referred to as radiculopathy or sciatica—occur when a spinal nerve in the lower back is irritated or compressed, often by a disc bulge or herniation. This can cause pain to travel from the lower back into the buttock, thigh, or leg.

Causes

It can develop gradually due to age-related disc changes, repetitive strain, or poor posture. It may also be triggered suddenly by lifting, twisting, or prolonged sitting.

Symtoms
  • Lower back pain with radiating pain into the leg buttock or thigh
  • Numbness tingling or pins and needles into the leg buttock or thigh
  • Muscle weakness or altered reflexes in the leg
  • Pain worsened by coughing sitting or bending
How we can help?

Most cases improve without surgery. Intervention focuses on relieving nerve irritation, restoring movement, and building core and spinal strength to support long-term recovery. If nerve pain is affecting your comfort or mobility, we’re here to help.

  • Stiffness after rest or first thing in the morning
  • Discomfort bending lifting or twisting

How we can help?

Arthritis

What is it?

Lumbar arthritis—also known as lumbar osteoarthritis, facet joint osteoarthritis, or spondylosis—is a degenerative condition that affects the joints in the lower spine. It leads to stiffness, inflammation, and pain, often as a result of wear and tear over time. It may also be referred to as degenerative joint disease (DJD) in medical reports.

Causes

This condition typically develops with age but can also result from previous injuries, repetitive strain, poor posture, or reduced spinal mobility. It involves gradual breakdown of cartilage in the facet joints, sometimes accompanied by bone spur formation

Symtoms
  • Aching or stiffness in the back
  • Pain that worsens after rest or first thing in the morning
  • Reduced flexibility or difficulty bending and twisting
  • Discomfort with prolonged standing or walking
